You’re engaged – congratulations!! And now you want to commemorate this season with photos, but you’re not into the traditional posed photos in a random field somewhere. I get it! Your photos should capture your personalities and your love for each other and be filled with just as much meaning as you put in every aspect of your relationship.

I’m a photographer based out of North Idaho and I specialize in capturing adventurous, natural, and personal photos. I’m all about creating a photo experience that is personalized to the couple I’m working with so that they end up with photos that they love!

That means breaking away from the stiff poses in a random location and custom tailoring each session to the couple I’m working with. I believe that your engagement photos can, and should, reflect your personalities. That’s why I like to include some non-traditional elements to my engagement session.

This post is going to show you some of my favorite engagement photo ideas for your Coeur d’Alene engagement session.

Why You Should Have an Engagement Session

If you’re on the fence about getting engagement photos, I want to encourage you to do it! This is a really special season in your life, and getting photos taken will help you remember it. If you’ve never had professional photos taken before, this is a great excuse to! You’ll get some beautiful images to hang on your walls, use on your wedding invitations, and to document this season of your relationship.

If you’re wedding photographer includes engagement photos in their packages, this is a great opportunity to connect with them before your wedding day. This will give you reassurance when your wedding day arrives and help you feel comfortable with them to get the best photos possible.

Where to Have your Engagement Session in Coeur d’Alene

This is really up to you and your photographer. When I do engagement sessions, I like to chat with my couples first to find out if they have any special locations that hold meaning to them and their relationship. If you don’t have anywhere in mind, that’s okay! Your photographer should be able to make some suggestions to help you find the perfect spot.

Adventurous Engagement Photography Ideas in Coeur d’Alene

Hike your favorite trail

If you enjoy recreating in the outdoors, one of my favorite suggestions is to hike your favorite trail! Especially if it has a nice view, this is a great way to get some personal photos in a place that has meaning and captures your adventurous personalities.

A few of my favorite easy hikes in Coeur d’Alene are Tubbs Hill and Mineral Ridge.

Lantern Photos

Grab some electronic lanterns and take some photos as the sun is setting. Lanterns create a romantic, ethereal feel to photos and are really fun!

Go to the Beach

Explore one of Lake Coeur d’Alene’s many beaches together. Play in the sand, go swimming, or just take some pretty photos alongside the water. Lake Coeur d’Alene is so beautiful and taking photos by the water.

Walk the Boardwalk at the Coeur d’Alene Resort

Grab an ice-cream from Mrs. Honeypeeps on your way and stroll along the world’s longest floating boardwalk. Take a leisurely stroll over the water together and take in the beautiful scenery.

Explore Farragut State Park together

One of the prettiest spots near Coeur d’Alene is Farragut State Park. Explore the park together and take in the scenery from the lake to the viewpoints overlooking the mountains.

Play in the snow

If you get engaged in the winter, take advantage of the snow and play in it! Have a snowball fight, make snow angels, and take some romantic photos fit for a Hallmark movie.

Go Snowshoeing

If you want to add a little more adventure to your winter engagement session, rent some snowshoes and go snowshoe! Farragut State Park is a great spot with views and good trails.

Re-create your favorite date

Have a favorite date that you want to remember forever? Why not recreate it? Whether it was dinner, dancing, hiking, or just sitting in the park together.

Watch the sunset over Lake CDA

Find a spot by the water and watch the sunset over the mountains of Coeur d’Alene together.

Have a picnic

Gather your favorite foods, some drinks, and your favorite picnic blanket and set up in the park or on the beach for a relaxing dinner together.

Choose a sentimental location

Have a spot that has meaning to the two of you and your relationship? Hold your shoot there! I once photographed an engagement on the side of a road because it was the spot where the couple first started to connect while working together.

Take a Cruise on Lake CDA

Taking a Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise is a great way for a relaxed, fun session with beautiful views! Relax on deck with a drink and take in the sights.

Incorporate your favorite hobbies

What kind of hobbies do you like to do together? Playing guitar, writing poetry, or dancing together? You can incorporate any of your hobbies into your session!

Visit the Old Mission State Park

About 30 minutes East of Coeur d’Alene is the Cataldo Mission, the oldest standing building in Idaho. Surrounded by rolling mountains, it’s a beautiful, scenic spot with space to explore together.

There you have it! As you can see, there’s no limit to what you can include in your engagement session, and Coeur d’Alene offers so many unique fun things you can incorporate into your session.
