Here you’ll find panoramic mountain views, gorgeous sandy beaches, and pine tree forests. This area is a hidden gem that’s perfect for micro-weddings and elopements close to nature while still remaining easily accessible.

How Much Does a Ponderosa State Park Wedding Cost?
All you need to get married in Ponderosa State Park is an Idaho marriage license, which costs approximately $30. You may want to reserve one of the day-use shelters in the park if you’ll be having a larger wedding, which can cost a few hundred dollars.
Most couples who get married in a State Park like Ponderosa end up spending between $5,000-$15,000, with a majority of that cost being on their photographer.
Are Pets Allowed at Your Ponderosa State Park Wedding?
Pets are allowed in Ponderosa State Park, which means you can bring your fur-babies to your wedding here! There are some regulations, such as keeping them on a leash at all times, but pets are welcome inside the park.

When is the Best Time of Year to Get Married at Ponderosa State Park?
May through September will give you the best weather for your wedding at Ponderosa State Park. This time of year is warm and dry, with the shoulder seasons being a little cooler with fewer crowds than in peak Summer.
I highly recommend choosing a weekday rather than a weekend for your wedding date, if possible, to avoid potential crowds from weekend warriors. This State Park is located just a few hours from Boise, and Idaho locals love to escape to nature over the summer.
Ponderosa State Park Wedding Locations
There are a few different locations you can choose for your wedding ceremony in Ponderosa State Park, depending on the event size and the type of scenery you want.
Ponderosa State Park Day-User Shelter
A covered day-use shelter with picnic tables and views of the lake. This is a perfect spot for larger weddings, and since it’s reservable, it provides you with a little more privacy. It’s easy to access for family members, and you can decorate the space to make your event more special.
Wedding Size: Weddings up to 100 people
Best For: Pinetrees, lake access, and easy accessibility.
Davis Beach
This sandy beach on Payette Lake is easily accessed next to the Ponderosa State Park Visitor Center. This is a beautiful location if you want to be close to the water or want to watch the sunset.
Wedding Size: Elopements up to 25 people
Best For: Water access, mountain views, easy accessibility.
Osprey Cliff Overlook
If you drive up the peninsula, you’ll find a short trail to the Osprey Cliff Overlook, which is a stunning viewpoint for intimate elopements. This is a gorgeous spot if you want panoramic mountain views that are still relatively easy to access.
Wedding Size: Elopements up to 10 people
Best For: Mountain views and sunset views.

There are so many ways you can immerse yourself in nature during your wedding here! These are some of the top adventurous activities you can include in your wedding experience for a personal celebration close to nature.
Hiking
I’m a firm believer that the best way to experience a place is on foot. Hiking one of Ponderosa’s hiking trails is a great way to explore and celebrate your elopement while immersing yourself in nature. You can start your day with a hike (like this couple did!) or hike in your wedding attire for some gorgeous photos. Either way, these are the top hikes for you adventure wedding in Ponderosa State Park:

- Peninsula Trail – 4 miles round-trip with 134 ft. of elevation gain
- Lily Marsh Trail – 2.1 miles round-trip with 200 ft. of elevation gain

Get Out on the Water
The park has lots of sandy shoreline along Payette Lake for swimming, paddleboarding, and boating. There is a dedicated swimming area at Davis Beach, with several bays to access the water throughout the park.
Camp Overnight
If you love camping or rustic accommodations, Ponderosa State Park has plenty of options for overnight accommodations. Here you’ll find campsites for tent camping, RVs, and even cabins tucked away in the pine trees.
Snowshoeing & Cross-country Skiing
McCall is a beautiful winter destination as well! In the winter, you’ll find miles and miles of groomed Nordic skiing and snowshoe trails in the park.

Tips for Avoiding Crowds During Your Ponderosa State Park Wedding
Since Ponderosa State Park is just a few hours from Boise, it is a popular spot for locals during the summer months for camping, hiking, and swimming. Which means you’ll need to strategize a little if you want to avoid crowds. Here are my best tips for having a secluded elopement at Ponderosa State Park.
Choose a Weekday instead of a Weekend
My biggest piece of advice for avoiding crowds during your Podnerosa State Park wedding is to steer clear of weekends. For the fewest crowds, plan to elope on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. This will be the most effective way to avoid crowds during your elopement.
Avoid Mid-Day
Midday, between 10am-4pm, is the busiest time of day, so I would plan to do the majority of your celebrations around sunrise or sunset. Midday is also the harshest lighting for photos, so it’s best to avoid scheduling your ceremony during these hours if you want soft, dreamy lighting.
Reserve a Day-Use Shelter
If you plan to bring more than a few guests to your Ponderosa State Park wedding, you’ll likely want to reserve a day-use shelter. This is the best option for having almost the entire space to yourself.
Permits for Your Ponderosa State Park Wedding
No special permit is required for weddings in Ponderosa State Park; however, all vehicles entering will need an Idaho State Parks Passport. This can be purchased in advance online or at the Visitors Center in the park upon arrival. Idaho residents can get an annual pass for $10/year with their vehicle registration.
