The Best Time of Year for a Washington Mountain Wedding

When planning a mountain wedding, it’s important to keep in mind that the weather can be more extreme at higher elevations. Typically mountain locations are best in the summer from late June through early September. Of course, if you want a winter wedding experience, January and February are most likely going to be the best time of year.

There’s no one answer and you’ll want to check with your venue and do your research based on the specific area.

How Much Does a Mountain Wedding Venue in Washington Cost?

Most mountain wedding venues in Washington cost between $3k-$5k, however, there are cheaper options available for elopements and intimate weddings.

When Should You Start Planning Your Destination Wedding in Washington?

As early as you can! It’s never too early to start planning your mountain wedding, and the earlier the better. I recommend giving yourself no less than six months to plan your wedding, and many venues will book up to two years in advance.

How to Plan a Washington Mountain Wedding

  1. Choose a Venue and a Date
  2. Hire a Local Photographer
  3. Plan Your Day
  4. Book Your Travel and Accommodations
  5. Get Your Marriage License and Any Necessary Permits
  6. Get Married!

Choose a Venue and a Date

Now that you have seen the best mountain wedding venues in Washington, you’ll have to find the perfect spot for your day. Remember to take into account the time of year you want to get married and the size of your wedding when choosing a venue.

You’ll also need to decide on a date. If you’re flexible, you can check with the venue and see what they have available.

Hire a Local Photographer

I always recommend working with a photographer who knows the area you’ll be getting married in. A good photographer with knowledge of an area can provide you with better advice when planning your day.

Plan Your Day

Speaking of planning your day, it’s time to start planning your mountain wedding! Start dreaming up everything you want for your big day and start organizing it into a timeline. Ask your photographer if they offer timeline creation as part of their service (I include a custom-made timeline in my elopement packages!) to help plan your day.

Book Your Travel and Accommodations

If you’ll be traveling from another part of the state, or a whole other state completely, you’ll want to start thinking about your travel accommodations. Book your flights, car rental, and overnight accommodations, and make sure to provide lodging recommendations for your family and friends flying in for your wedding.

Get Your Marriage License and Any Necessary Permits

You’ll need to apply for your marriage license in advance, as Washington has a 3-day waiting period before you can get married. You can apply in person at a county recorder’s office or through the mail.

No matter where you live, you’ll get your marriage license in Washington state. Look up the county recorder’s office for the county you’ll be getting married in for specific details to obtain your marriage license.

Eloping in a National Park or Other Public Land?

You will likely need a permit if your wedding takes place on public land in Washington, which means you’ll need to do some research on your location and their requirements. Permits typically cost between $50-$300 and need to be approved, so it’s best to apply for them as early as possible.

Not sure if you need a permit? Unsure of how to apply? I offer permit assistance for all couples that elope with me! I can help you research, apply for, and obtain your permit. Contact me and let’s work together!

Get Married!

All that’s left to do now is get married and have an amazing day! Enjoy the view and have a fantastic wedding experience!

I’m an elopement photographer who not only helps couples remember their day through pictures but helps plan it as well. If you’re ready to start planning your mountain elopement, send me a message!

Happy eloping!
