Frequently Asked Questions about Eloping in Yellowstone

Getting married in Yellowstone doesn’t have to be complicated, but you’ll need a few things like a permit and a Wyoming marriage license. I’ll walk you through exactly how to get both of those for a stress-free elopement experience.

Technically, all you need to elope in Yellowstone is a marriage license ($30) and a Special Use Permit ($250), which means a wedding here costs $280. Most couples end up spending between $8,000 and $16,000 on their elopement for a fun experience, with the majority of their budget going toward a photographer. You can spend as much or as little as you want on your elopement, depending on the kind of experience you want.

There are a handful of designated wedding ceremony locations in Yellowstone, a few of my favorite being Bridge Bay on Yellowstone Lake and the Lamar Valley. When we work together, I’ll send you the best places to elope based on the type of scenery you want to experience and what parts of the park you want to explore during the day.

To get married in the state of Wyoming, all you need is your marriage license, an ordained minister, and two witnesses to sign your license. I’m ordained and can sign your marriage license if you want to keep your day simple. Absolutely! This is an incredibly important day, and for some couples it wouldn’t be complete without their loved one’s by their side. I love working with couples that want to bring a handful of their closest relationships with them on their elopement day!

June through September is generally the best time to elope in Yellowstone because the park sits at a high elevation and the rest of the year can be a bit dicey when it comes to weather. July and August will bring the warmest, driest weather and the whole park will be open, but it’s also the busiest. The Shoulder season is great for wildlife sightings, cooler weather, and slightly fewer crowds. I can help you find the perfect date for your elopement based on the kind of experience you want to have in the park.
